Not to worry, there is no crime wave in Rosedale. Not
yet, so let us keep it that way. So, why the Watch? The
police still want and need the assistance of citizens to help
them become more proactive in identifying problem areas
or potential security issues.
In essence, a Neighborhood Watch is a crime prevention
program that stresses education and common sense. It
teaches citizens how to help themselves by identifying and
reporting suspicious activity in their neighborhoods. In
addition, it provides citizens with the opportunity to make
their neighborhoods safer and improve the quality of life.
Neighborhood Watch groups typically focus on observation
and awareness as a means of preventing crime and employ
strategies that range from simply promoting social
interaction and "watching out for each other" to active
patrols by groups of citizens.
The WPRRA decided to create a local neighborhood watch
program in 2005. The program began in June 2006. The
benefits of such a program are not just how it would assist
the police, but also make the residents of Rosedale more
aware and more educated in the event that assistance may
be needed.
If you are concerned, make the call, there are no
inappropriate calls. You should not feel uncomfortable
using 911. If you think your concern is not an
emergency, then call 422-6111, which is the WPPD
main number or 422-6000, which is the WPPD
emergency number. But make the call; your neighbors
may thank you later.
Join us and help us keep our great south end that much more secure for our famlies, friends, and neighbors.
